Some coffees are simply drinks. Others become rituals.
In Lebanon, the rakwe belongs firmly to the second category.
It appears in our mornings, after meals, during visits, around conversations and whenever someone asks the familiar question: shall we make coffee?
At Bean Harbor, we never wanted to change that ritual.
We wanted to see what would happen if we changed the coffee behind it.
A Familiar Cup
Lebanese coffee is traditionally brewed slowly in a rakwe, producing a concentrated cup with a powerful aroma, dense body and pronounced roasted character.
It is a taste many of us have known for most of our lives.
But achieving that intensity has traditionally been associated with very dark roasting. When coffee is pushed too far during roasting, the qualities belonging to the beans themselves can become overshadowed by roast flavours, including excessive bitterness, smokiness and burnt notes.
We asked ourselves a simple question:
Could we preserve the character people expect from Lebanese coffee while starting with genuinely exceptional specialty coffee?
That question became Rakwe Blend.

Creating a specialty coffee specifically for Lebanese preparation required us to think beyond simply choosing good beans.
The roast itself had to be developed around the rakwe.
Through sourcing, blending, roasting and repeated tasting, we worked toward a profile that could deliver the depth expected from Lebanese coffee while allowing sweetness and the natural character of the beans to remain present.
The result is a cup with a rounded, satisfying body, rich aroma and deep chocolate and roasted-nut characteristics, accompanied by a softer natural sweetness and a smooth, lasting finish.
It remains recognizably Lebanese in character, but the experience is cleaner and more balanced.
Respecting What Came Before
Innovation in coffee does not always mean inventing a new brewing method or introducing something unfamiliar.
Sometimes it means looking again at something we already love.
At Bean Harbor, our approach is rooted in that balance: respecting coffee traditions while applying better sourcing, more
precise roasting and the knowledge we continue to build as specialty coffee roasters.
